Eight years ago, Trump reportedly called Haiti and El Salvador “shithole countries,” and America’s political and media establishment had a collective fucking aneurysm.
Fast-forward to October 2026. Four hundred fifty Salvadoran special forces arrive in Haiti aboard an American C-130, participating in a U.S.-backed effort to confront the gangs terrorizing the country.
And here’s the magnificent historical irony these sanctimonious bastards seem incapable of appreciating: El Salvador, one of the countries supposedly insulted in 2018, is now a founding member of Trump’s Shield of the Americas coalition.
The country once invoked as evidence of Trump’s racism has become a participant in his emerging Western Hemisphere security strategy.
How’s that for a fucking plot twist?
While Hollywood was busy modeling “Haiti is Great Already” shirts, Haiti continued its descent into catastrophe. Gangs now control roughly 70% of Port-au-Prince, millions face displacement or food insecurity, and Royal Caribbean has suspended visits through June 2027.
Meanwhile, Washington has designated Haiti’s major gangs as terrorist organizations, helped establish a UN-backed suppression force, assembled international financing, and organized regional cooperation against criminal networks.
El Salvador supplies soldiers. America supplies military transportation and strategic support. The Dominican Republic reinforces its border.
The Donroe Doctrine is taking shape in plain sight.
And what an extraordinary contrast: the political class spent years treating Trump’s alleged vocabulary as a historic international scandal, while the far more consequential transformation of America’s regional security relationships receives comparatively little explanation.
Apparently, dissecting an eight-year-old insult is easier than connecting a UN resolution, an international coalition, $100 million in contributions, and an American military aircraft delivering allied troops into Haiti.
History has moved from political outrage to military cooperation.
Trump’s regional partners are confronting problems that politicians have debated for decades, while too many commentators remain trapped in the rhetorical battles of 2018.
The Western Hemisphere’s security arrangements are changing. America’s political commentariat is still arguing over the fucking transcript. (article below)— Flopping Aces (@FloppingAces) October 28, 2026
