Congratulations, New York! You’ve finally identified the terrifying menace threatening civilization: three little Amish schoolhouses full of children carrying books.
Naturally, Albany responded with $118,000 in fucking fines.
Three privately funded schools, attended exclusively by Amish children, apparently require the full attention of a state government that has decided religious accommodation is a dangerous luxury.
Thank God somebody finally cracked down on those sinister little schoolhouses.
For 53 years, New York allowed religious exemptions to school vaccination requirements. Then Albany eliminated them while preserving medical exemptions. According to the Amish plaintiffs’ attorney, 45 other states still accommodate religious objections.
Forty-five states somehow manage this extraordinary feat of administrative wizardry. New York apparently needs a constitutional emergency room.
And when the Amish challenged the fines, the government kept winning. District court. Appeals court. Even after the Supreme Court ordered another look, the Amish lost again.
Imagine the bureaucratic champagne corks popping. Three rural schoolhouses successfully dragged through years of litigation. Another magnificent victory for the Empire of Paperwork.
Here’s the really embarrassing part. During a 2014 measles outbreak among Ohio’s Amish, health officials worked with the community and secured cooperation, vaccinations, and isolation.
Apparently, someone forgot to explain that public health requires treating religious families like delinquent taxpayers.
Now Amish families may leave New York altogether if the Supreme Court declines to intervene.
What a spectacular fucking accomplishment. Take a peaceful community, eliminate a religious accommodation that existed for half a century, hammer its schools with six-figure penalties, and potentially drive its families out of the state.
Somewhere in Albany, somebody probably considers this exemplary public service.
The United States defeated the British Empire, survived a civil war, and put men on the moon.
New York needs federal courts, years of litigation, and $118,000 in fines to conquer three Amish schoolhouses.
History will surely marvel at their courage. (article below)— Flopping Aces (@FloppingAces) October 22, 2026
